Wii Fit Tracks 05/27/2008

Some game titles are like Carmen Sandiego - they're nowhere to be found...anywhere.  If you look over the Wii tracker sites for games, everyone's out of the game.  No Kmart, no GameStop, no FYE, no Amazon.  Even Wal-Mart, who has everything in large quantities, has empty shelves that once held Wii Fit.

Your Wii tracker and isn't the only sign of how bad things have become.  eBay has become a haven for price gougers, eager to live well off your laziness.  If only we had made the pre-orders with all the people who now have their Wii telling them how fat they are.  Sigh...

For all the love Wii Fit's been receiving worlwide, it was inevitable that the backlash would arrive.  One of the first salvoes comes from Dr. Judith Stern, professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California.  Apparently, Dr. Stern doesn't love Wii Fit as much as the world.

Stern says the game is "false and misleading".  Her major issue is not so much with the game as it is with is usage of the body mass index (BMI) as its main tool for determining fitness.  As the doc says, "When you are physically fit, you tend to replace fat with muscle, and your BMI probably won't change."  Makes sense.  Hope people know it's a video game and not a personal trainer.

Nintendo is REALLY hyping the Wii Fit with no end. We're seeing the Wii Fit everywhere on television. It seems like every morning show has had the hosts play with the Wii Fit and then tell people they like it. Now Nintendo has released some really high quality screen shots of the Wii Fit in action.

Nintendo really believes that the Wii Fit will be the biggest product of the year for the United States. They just may be right because Americans love video games and they sure do love spending money on devices that help them get fit or lose weight. Just looking at the Nintendo Wii shortage, the Wii Fit will break new records in the US.

Pachter is a well known analyst. That just means he wears and suits and makes predictions based on observing things from the outside. Anyway, people listen to him and he has said things before like the Wii Fit will sell 3 to 4 million in 2008. Now he's come out with another prediction. The Wii Fit marketing will make sure the Nintendo Wii is out of stock indefinitely.

We're not sure if this is much of a prediction, but you can't really argue with this prediction. The Wii Fit is going to be huge. You can't find a pre-order available anywhere right now. This may be the best prediction Pachter has ever made because it's not really a prediction. It's quite obvious actually.

Some of you might not know that the world already has Wii Fit in their hands because Nintendo decided to launch the Wii Fit in the US last. I'm not sure why they did this, but we'll probably never know. Anyway, the UK has gone bananas over the Wii Fit and it is currently sold out everywhere

So is what's going over in the UK any indication of what will happen in the US? Well currently, the Wii Fit is completely sold out on preorders everywhere. The US has also been fanatical about dieting and exercise trends, so we're betting it'll be a HUGE hit. The Wii Fit is being released right around the corner so we'll just have to see.

Many people in the gaming community have their doubts about the Wii Fit. It is less than when Nintendo Wii was first announced back in the day. People weren't sure about the motion sensitive controller, but now it is widely successful as one of Nintendo's greatest achievements.

So hardcore gamers just being bitter just because the Wii Fit doesn't seem to be made for them? That's probably the reason as the Wii Fit has sold out on pre-orders a complete 1 month before the release date. That's pretty incredible. We've been hearing stories that girls are the largest requesters of Wii Fit. We'll just have to find out.

Ok, so it's not completely true as Grand Theft Auto 4 just came out and taking the world by storm. I believe they sold 500 million dollars worth of the game in the first week alone. Anyway, the Wii Fit and Mario Kart still did very well against supposedly the best game ever.

The Wii Fit ended up coming in 2nd and 3rd in most European countries being beat out by GTA4 in either the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions. Once the excitement over GTA4 dies down and everyone has a copy, the Wii Fit should be able to take the top spot once again. Looking for the results next week to see if the Wii games can get back up to #1.
